DOUBLE SPREAD PAGE FIRST DRAFT

During the process, I also included another picture that is faded out behind the editorial on the right hand side for affect as I did not want the page to look empty
and plain. In this draft, I used basic music magazine conventions such as a title, headline , editorial and pulled out quote.  however, as you can see from my final product the double spread page is simplistic however, with all the more detailed magazine conventions included such as page number, issue number, and photographers credit makes the page look more detailed but clean. Throughout the process ,  a lot of things changed. First ,the photograph was badly edited as I was still learning how to use the blurring/smoothing tool to make it look natural. The editorial was not in article columns which makes this draft look messy.

“I’m back and I’m better”
 After months of hiding, pain and the malicious rumours songstress Amara has finally opened up about her heartbreak that happened last year July when pictures of her boyfriend Aaron cheating with a supermodel, Jasmine Roselynn has been leaked on social media. Amara explains that she was “embarrassed” and “humiliated” in front of her devoted fans. We have gained a deeper insight of Amara’s life as she agreed to have this exclusive interview after her heartbreak

Amara started her career with Aaron as he was her music producer, The “With your Love” single won three American Music awards earlier this year in March however; things were getting awfully rocky between the two. It seems that the break up has been a drastic change in Amara’s  life as she moved from Atlanta to LA back in February. She tells us "It was a change I had to make for my sanity - to keep my distance”

Optimistically, the worse the break up , the better the art: even if she is experiencing pain the passion within her did not stop Amara from what she does the best. Amara is currently working on her new album “Exquisite Pain” is the product of a period of intense grief that she has experience throughout the last 5 years ,so bad that she states that “I had to pack everything associated with the relationship and, left it in an untouched box” 

Throughout the interview Amara did not show any tears or pain, she was strong and held her head high This love triangle did not stop Amara from her passion for music as she has continued to rise in the Hip-Hop music industry with the hot new single “interlude” ft.PartyNextDoor. “I had to hold myself together and put all the pain into my music. I am so proud of this release and ready to move forward.”

When analysis the professional double spread pages, I have learned that when designing my own I will need to match the picture with the editorial as this creates an effect and allows the page to have meaning.

article introduction

I have decided that the article on my double spread page will be about, a Hip-Hop female artist who has been criticised by men in the industry because she is a female artist as Hip-Hop is mostly associated with men.The article will be an interview with the artist however, i will be written in first person.I think an interview is the best way to get the audience attention because everyone is more interested in what the artist has to say rather than the unknown writer.i will scatter pulled out quotes across the page to grab the readers attention,this way it will engage the reader more into the article. I have written a little bit of my introduction and it goes like this
"In an era of male dominated Hip-Hop industry, the new female artist emerges and outtakes everything and everyone."

 This is a sketch of my DPS. i have decided that the right hand side there will be in two formula columns,the headline will be a pulled quote in order to attract the audience with the sensational information. i have chosen serif font writing for the headline/pulled quote so that it would stand out and look attractive. Also, underneath the headline i will have a standfirst to add more information so that it could engage the reader more in the article. There will be about 40% of editorial 60% of images.
On the left hand side, there will be about 3-4 images of the artist. i have chosen a female artist, as from my market research i have found that my audience would like to see a female artist.I will use variety of shots such as mid body shots and close ups. The colour theme of my DSP is gold,black and grey. i have chosen these colours because i believe that they are associated with my chosen music genre,Hip-Hop. For Mise-en-scene, i will have simple background so that the main focus would be on the model.

I have analysed a content page and two very famous double spread pages in order to help me understand what I will need to include when making my own.

For the content page, i have learned that I will need to include a logo and a form of iconography on my content page. This makes the content page look more attractive and professional as it represents the magazine.

In addition, when designing my double spread page I will match the costume, hair and make up of the model with the headline. This is effective because, it will make the pictures and text blend in together in the magazine house style. Also, the colour theme is extremely important as it makes the double spread page more catchy but clean.

School Magazine

I have made the cover and a content page for my school magazine, i used Photoshop to achieve this.
I based my school magazine on charity,revision tips and the new sixth form building.This magazine is for sixth form students at St Angela's school. The title of my magazine is "Angela's World" i have used big,bold, serif font to make it stand out and to attract audience as it is eye catching. The picture on the front cover of my school magazine has too much colour therefore,it clashes with the white writing.This makes the front cover look messy as it has too much colours,i have learned that the image should be more simple as i will need to write all over it to include information.
I have used a mid body shot for the content page with a plain background,this picture was more useful as i was able to add the information around the picture on the plain background.
